General Interests

Science, Philosophy, Religion, Culture…

I enjoy both theoretical and applicable sciences.  I enjoy lasers and photovoltaic research.  I enjoy traveling to other countries and eating their foods.  I enjoy reading, coffee, movies, video games, animals, mountain biking, soccer, beaches, long conversations about the universe, laughing, photography, photoshop, the internet, networking, the wallstreet journal, cigars and red wine, autumn, ANYTHING sci-fi, gadgets, neutral colors, and anything that involves learning something new.

I am inspired by science and the future of science.  I am also inspired by like minds who have had great success in implementing their ideas for a better world; people like Ray Kurzweil, Peter Diamandis, Craig Venter, Carl Sagan.  I don’t mean to say I am as brilliant as any of these individuals… but the passion they share toward research and the pursuit of knowledge resonates very strongly with me.  I see a brighter future through the implementation of new technologies for people worldwide, and hope to be a part of that effort.

Melissa, are you working as a professional chemist at this point or still studying? Not many young women pursue the sciences. I have a 30 year old niece, however, who has a PhD in chemistry and has applied her talents and skills to doing high level art restoration. She recently completed a three year fellowship at the National Gallery in Washington. / Different subject, since you appear to enjoy thought provoking or unusual films, are you familiar with the work of these two directors: Terence Malik and John Sayles? Malik is only working on his fourth film in thirty years but he creates amazing films. His first was called “Badlands” and was loosely based on the Charlie Starkweather serial murder case out west in the 1950s. A mesmerizing look at the mind of a psychopathic personality. John Sayles has been far more prolific and also produces startling images in his films. Highly recommended would be “Matewan,” “Lone Star” and “The Secret of Rowan Inish.” Okay, that’s all for now.
